Kailash Kher is an Indian playback singer, live performer, and composer whose music blends Indian folk and Sufi traditions with pop rock and spiritual influences.
Born into a Kashmiri Pundit family, he grew up listening to his father render traditional Indian folk songs and began learning classical music at age twelve.
He was inspired by legendary Pakistani Sufi singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.
After initial struggles in the music industry and a failed venture in the handicraft export business (1998-1999), he moved to Mumbai in 2001 to pursue a professional singing career.
His breakthrough came in 2002 with the song Allah ke Bande from the film Waisa Bhi Hota Hai Part II, which made him a household name.
He has sung in over 20 languages for Indian films and performed in more than 1000 concerts globally.
He is regarded as a great Sufi singer in the tradition of Ustad Nusrat Ali Khan.
