Latest News about Vitali Klitschko
Hundreds of residents rallied outside Kyiv City Council demanding that Mayor Vitali Klitschko resign over the city's failure to prepare for winter. Protesters criticised the authorities' handling of shelters and preparations, though his removal was described as unlikely. Russian strikes had left many people across Ukraine without power at the time.
Klitschko told AFP that the situation in Kyiv had become a matter of survival amid intensifying Russian attacks. He advised residents with friends or relatives outside the capital to consider temporarily leaving, while stressing he would not call for a full evacuation. He also said the city was preparing backup heating and stockpiling fuel, food and water for winter.
Klitschko gave evidence virtually to the UK Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee on the humanitarian impact of Russia's full-scale invasion. The session was expected to address the abduction of Ukrainian children by Russia and the ongoing US-mediated peace talks.
