A court in Bihar’s Vaishali district acquitted Digvijaya Singh in a 14-year-old defamation case linked to remarks allegedly made against Baba Ramdev. The judgment came after the final hearing in the long-running case. The acquittal resolved one of the older legal disputes involving the veteran Congress leader.

Digvijaya Singh publicly disputed claims made by Madhya Pradesh Congress chief Jitu Patwari about a land allotment controversy in the state. He said the trust involved was a government trust, not a private one, and stated that he had reviewed the relevant documents before speaking. His remarks triggered internal disagreement within the state Congress unit.

Digvijaya Singh announced that he will vacate his Rajya Sabha seat when his term ends on 9 April 2026 and will not seek another term. He said the decision was made after a request to reserve the seat for a Scheduled Caste representative, and emphasized that he is not retiring from politics. The move was framed as a step to support broader representation within the party.
