Tej Pratap Yadav was officially expelled from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) for six years by party president Lalu Prasad Yadav due to irresponsible behaviour and failing to conform to probity and family values. This followed a Facebook post where he claimed a 12-year romantic relationship with a woman named Anushka Yadav, which he later said was due to a hacked account and deleted. The expulsion also led to him being disowned by his father.
Tej Pratap Yadav contested the 2025 Bihar Legislative Assembly election from the Mahua constituency on a Janshakti Janata Dal ticket but lost to LJP(RV) candidate Sanjay Kumar Singh, finishing third behind Singh and RJD's incumbent MLA Mukesh Kumar Raushan. He garnered around 35,000 votes but lost by a margin of 51,000 votes. After the election, his party announced support for the NDA government.
