The Gauhati High Court extended the interim protection granted to Abhisar Sharma until November 17 in a case filed against him over alleged remarks accusing Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of promoting communal politics. The court directed the state counsel to produce the case diary of the investigation.
The Supreme Court granted Abhisar Sharma four weeks of interim protection from arrest after he challenged an FIR filed by Assam Police. The bench declined to quash the FIR at this stage and asked him to approach the Gauhati High Court for further relief. The court also issued notice on his constitutional challenge to Section 152 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deals with acts endangering the sovereignty, unity and integrity of India.
