Police arrested Ashok Sahu, a businessman from Nalanda, for allegedly hiring contract killers to murder Gopal Khemka. Sahu had prior altercations with Khemka and had threatened him with a gun during a brawl. He allegedly paid Rs 10 lakh to contract killers. Police also arrested Umesh, the alleged shooter, and shot dead Vikas, who allegedly accompanied the shooter, in an encounter.

Gopal Khemka, a prominent businessman and BJP leader in Bihar, was shot dead outside his residence near Panache Hotel in the Gandhi Maidan area of Patna around 11:40 PM. The incident occurred when he was stepping out of his car after returning from the Bankipore Club. A bike-borne assailant opened fire on him at close range, and he was declared brought dead at the hospital.
