Latest News about Timothy Broglio
Broglio urged Catholic members of the U.S. Army not to take part in the planned firing squad execution of Nidal Hasan, the Fort Hood attacker. He also criticised the Pentagon's plan to livestream the execution, arguing that it conflicts with Church teaching.
The National Catholic Bioethics Center announced that Broglio had been elected chairman of its board of directors on 09/06/2026. He had long served on the board and was credited with bringing experience from his tenure as president of the U.S. bishops' conference.
Broglio appeared on CBS News' Face the Nation, where he discussed the U.S. military campaign against Iran and the spiritual needs of service members deployed in the Middle East. In April 2026 he also said the Iran war was likely not justified under Catholic teaching on legitimate defence.
