Former New Zealand captain Ross Taylor announced he was ending his retirement to play for Samoa, his mother's homeland, at the Asia-East Asia-Pacific T20 World Cup 2026 Qualifier in Oman. He was named in Samoa's 15-man squad led by Caleb Jasmat, having become eligible after completing the required three-year stand-down period following his last New Zealand match in April 2022. The qualifier was scheduled to begin on 8 October 2026 and is Samoa's final step toward the 2026 Men's T20 World Cup.
