Melissa Barrera

Barrera said she would consider returning to the Scream franchise, but only if the rights moved away from Spyglass Media Group, which she said never apologised after accusing her of antisemitism. Her 2023 firing from Scream 7 over pro-Palestinian social media posts remains a central point of her public comments.

Barrera said in an interview that her political activism over Gaza cost her opportunities in Hollywood, reviving discussion of her firing from the Scream franchise. The comments framed her exit as part of a broader backlash against outspoken support for Palestinians.

Barrera took a few days off from her Broadway debut run in Titanique after losing her voice during a performance. She plays Rose DeWitt Bukater in the musical parody, which was extended through September 2026.

Barrera launched her own production and distribution company intended to support Palestinian cinema and underrepresented voices in the entertainment industry. The launch came more than two years after she was fired from Scream 7 over social media posts about the Israel-Gaza war.

Melissa Barrera began 2026 promoting The Copenhagen Test, a spy-thriller project that marked a new chapter in her career. Coverage of the release described the role as part of her continued shift toward layered, physically demanding performances.
