M. K. Stalin lost the Kolathur constituency in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly election to TVK candidate V. S. Babu by a margin of 8,795 votes, with Babu securing 82,997 votes against Stalin's 74,202. This result marked a historic political shift as actor-turned-politician Vijay's TVK emerged as the single largest party with 108 seats, defeating the ruling DMK which finished with 59 seats, leading to Stalin's resignation as Chief Minister being accepted by the Governor.
