Inés Gómez Mont was reported detained in Florida, United States, after about five years outside the reach of Mexican authorities. The detention was based on an arrest order for extradition to Mexico, where she faces charges of organized crime, embezzlement and money laundering linked to alleged diversion of public funds through government-contracted companies. Her husband, businessman Víctor Manuel Álvarez Puga, is also under investigation in the same case.
Inés Gómez Mont published her first novel for adults, titled Ley de Fuego, while still facing legal proceedings in Mexico. Media reports also said she planned a further non-fiction book based on a real story.
