Latest News about Gaël Monfils
A ceremony honouring Monfils is scheduled during the Paris Masters on the evening of 3 November 2026, although he will not compete in the tournament. The tribute is intended to recognise his career as a former world No. 6.
His wife, WTA player Elina Svitolina, announced that she was ending their five-year marriage, citing the impact of the war in Ukraine. The announcement came shortly after his sudden retirement, though neither player has said the two events are connected. Monfils later said on a Twitch livestream that the separation left him not psychologically well.
Gaël Monfils was added to the International Tennis Integrity Agency's retired players list, meaning he is no longer eligible to enter professional tournaments. He had removed himself from the sport's anti-doping testing pool, and returning would require six months of out-of-competition testing. He had previously planned to retire at the 2026 Paris Masters.
