Career
| Story | Bibi Rajni was a devoted Sikh disciple of Guru Ram Das Ji during the era of the fourth Sikh Guru. Born as the youngest daughter of Rai Duni Chand, a revenue collector (kardar) of Patti, she grew up in a wealthy family but was deeply religious. When she asserted that all blessings came from God rather than her father's efforts, her father married her to a man afflicted with leprosy as punishment. Despite this hardship, Bibi Rajni accepted her fate with unwavering faith, carrying her husband in a basket and supporting them through labor and begging while continuously chanting God's name. Her devotion led to a miraculous transformation when her husband bathed in a sacred pool near present-day Amritsar, where a Ber tree later became known as the Dukh Bhanjani Beri Tree. Following Guru Ram Das Ji's guidance, her husband began a successful cloth trading business. Bibi Rajni's contributions were instrumental in the construction of the sacred pool of Sri Harmandir Sahib in Amritsar. Her legacy is commemorated through a gurdwara and women's college named after her in Patti, and her life inspired the 1974 film 'Dukh Bhanjan Tera Naam'. |
