| 1. In 1972, he began his career with the Ministry of Finance and Petroleum of the State of Qatar. |
| 2. From 1973 to 1986, he held the post of Head of International and Public Relations at the ministry. |
| 3. From 1986 to 1989, he served as the Director of the Office of the Ministry of Interior. |
| 4. From 1989 to 1992, he was the Acting Minister of the Ministry of Finance and Petroleum. |
| 5. In 1992, he got appointed as the Minister of Energy & Industry and Chairman and Managing Director of Qatar Petroleum. |
| 6. In 1993, he was named OPEC president and a member of the OPEC’s Quota Compliance Committee. |
| 7. In 2003, he was appointed as the second Deputy Prime Minister and promoted to Deputy Prime Minister in 2007. |
| 8. In 2006, he was elected as the Chairman of the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development. |
| 9. He served as Chair during the 2012 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Doha. |
| 10. He served as Chairman of the Qatar Planning Commission. |
| 11. In 2015, inaugurated the Abdullah Bin Hamad Al-Attiyah International Foundation for Energy & Sustainable Development. |
