Bains told the Punjab Vidhan Sabha that the state’s government school system had improved sharply and claimed Punjab had moved to the top of India’s school education rankings. He also pointed to expanded AI education, improved infrastructure, and a large rise in government-school students qualifying NEET and JEE.
Harjot Singh Bains said Punjab government schools had another strong year in national competitive exams and that 361 students qualified JEE(Main), 64 cleared JEE(Advanced), and 882 qualified NEET-UG 2026. He credited the gains to the Punjab Academic Coaching for Excellence initiative and other school support measures.
Bains met students from his constituency who cleared NEET and JEE Mains in 2026 and said helping them was his biggest achievement. He also said he would personally take responsibility for their educational expenses, highlighting support for students from ordinary families.
During a surprise visit to a senior secondary school in Hoshiarpur, Bains ordered immediate action after finding the school’s condition unsatisfactory. He directed officials to begin upgrading the infrastructure and shared the inspection publicly on X.
