In 2012, Chirag joined the LJP.
In 2014, he contested and won the Lok Sabha elections from the Jamui Lok Sabha Constituency of Bihar.
He was Chairman of LJP's Central Parliamentary Board.
In 2019, he was re-elected as an MP from the Jamui Lok Sabha Constituency of Bihar.
On 5 November 2019, he was elected as the National President of the LJP.
He won the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from the Hajipur constituency in Bihar by 1.70 lakh votes.
