Latest News about Matt Gaetz
Two women filed a federal civil lawsuit in the Middle District of Florida naming Matt Gaetz, former Seminole County tax collector Joel Greenberg and former Florida lawmaker Christopher Dorworth as defendants. The complaint alleges sex trafficking and paid sexual encounters between 2017 and 2019, which Gaetz denies. He has said he looks forward to taking the plaintiffs' depositions, and the Department of Justice previously declined to bring criminal charges against him.
A Florida Bar file released in January 2026 showed that the Bar's grievance committee had taken preliminary steps toward investigating Gaetz before dropping the matter. The Bar reportedly cited an argument that the alleged conduct, as described in a House Ethics Committee finding of statutory rape, had no connection to practicing law. The decision drew criticism from commentators in the press.
