Latest News about Reece James
Chelsea confirmed that captain Reece James had undergone successful minor knee surgery after an injury sustained in training before the club's Premier League win over Bournemouth. He was expected to be sidelined for around three months, with reports suggesting he would not return until 2027. Chelsea's manager Xabi Alonso said the captain's absence would be a blow to the side.
James suffered a hamstring injury near the end of the 2025-26 season, which kept him out for about four weeks and caused him to miss England's matches against Japan and Uruguay. He recovered in time to rejoin Chelsea and was included in Thomas Tuchel's World Cup squad, finishing the season with 39 appearances for the club.
James was withdrawn from the England squad ahead of matches against Wales and Latvia, with Chelsea confirming the decision. He was replaced in the squad by Nico O'Reilly despite having featured regularly for Chelsea earlier in the season.
