Yordan Alvarez

The Houston Astros lost the American League Wild Card Series to the Chicago White Sox, who swept the best-of-three series after a 7-3 Game 2 loss in Houston. Alvarez was largely held in check in the decisive stretch, with his fifth-inning chance ending on a hard-hit ball caught near the left-field warning track.

Alvarez hit a three-run homer in a 9-0 win over the Athletics in Sacramento that clinched the American League West title for Houston. The season ended with him winning the American League batting title, which made him a standout of the Astros' division-winning campaign.

By late July, Alvarez had become a central reason the Astros remained active in the playoff race, with his production carrying the lineup. Reports noted that he was batting over .320 with elite on-base and slugging numbers while continuing to pile up home runs and extra-base hits.

Yordan Alvarez was named an American League All-Star starter for the 2026 Midsummer Classic, earning his fourth All-Star selection. He led the majors in OPS and total bases at the time, while also leading the American League in home runs, RBIs, and extra-base hits.

Alvarez hit three grand slams during the 2026 season, matching the franchise record for the most grand slams in a single season. The feat tied him with several Astros greats and highlighted one of the most productive power-hitting stretches in team history.
