Babulal Marandi is an Indian tribal activist, politician, and member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
He served as the first Chief Minister of Jharkhand from 2000 to 2003.
Marandi established the Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) in 2006 and has been elected as an MP five times.
In 2023, he became the president of the BJP in Jharkhand.
During his time at Ranchi University, he joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and became a pracharak in Bihar.
Marandi started his career as a teacher before dedicating more time to the RSS.
From 1983 to 1990, he held the position of organizing secretary for the VHP.
He moved to Dumka in 1983 to serve in the Santhal Parganas division.
In 1989, Marandi joined the BJP after leaving the RSS.
He became the president of the Bihar State Adivasi Morcha in 1992.
Marandi lost the 1995 Bihar state assembly polls to an opponent from the JMM.
He was defeated by Shibu Soren in the 1996 Lok Sabha elections.
In 1998, Marandi won the general elections with 6,01,894 votes.
