Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, The Queen Mother of Thailand, passed away peacefully at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital at the age of 93 due to complications from a blood infection after being hospitalized since 17 October. Thailand entered a period of national mourning, with a year-long mourning period declared for government officials and 90 days for the general public by her son, King Vajiralongkorn, and Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul. Her remains were laid in state in the Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall of the Grand Palace starting 26 October.
