Kamala Harris

Harris began campaigning across several states for Democratic candidates in the 2026 midterms, starting with a trip to Michigan on behalf of a Senate nominee. Reports said she had further rallies planned in Nevada and Georgia while she weighed whether to seek the presidency again in 2028.

Kamala Harris has been increasing her involvement in the 2026 midterm elections, including backing Democratic candidates such as Rep. Chris Pappas in New Hampshire. The move marks a more active public role after a relatively quiet period following her 2024 presidential loss, while she continues to keep open the possibility of a 2028 run.

Reports in early August said Harris was still keeping her options open for a 2028 presidential bid while focusing on voting rights and helping Democrats in the midterms. Allies described her immediate priority as strengthening state parties and boosting Democratic candidates ahead of the 2026 elections.

Harris said at the 2026 National Action Network Convention in New York that she is thinking about running for president in 2028, her most open remarks to date about her political future. The comments came after she released a campaign memoir in late 2025 and went on a book tour.

Harris announced she would not seek California's governorship in 2026, ending months of speculation that she could be the front-runner to succeed Governor Gavin Newsom. She said she would not seek higher office in 2026 and kept open the possibility of a future presidential run.
