The Gujarat state government, run by the BJP, proposed gifting him 500 square metres of a disputed municipal plot in Vadodara, with the remaining land offered at a concessional rate. He had sought the plot since 2012 despite legal hurdles and civic notices over alleged encroachment, and the offer drew opposition from Congress. The proposal came about two months after he left the Trinamool Congress.

The Gujarat High Court gave Yusuf Pathan four weeks to continue pursuing his claim for land allotment under the state policy for international cricketers. The court also warned that any further delay could increase damages related to his continued occupation of a Vadodara municipal plot.
