Bio/Wiki

Sonu Kakkar is an Indian playback singer, songwriter and television personality, best known for her husky, rustic voice and work across multiple Indian languages. Born Niti Kakkar in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, she grew up in a lower‑middle‑class family and began singing bhajans at jagrans from the age of five to help support her household. Her father sold samosas outside a school, and financial constraints meant she completed only basic schooling and did not attend college.
Sonu moved to Delhi with her family in 1990 and later shifted to Mumbai, where she participated in singing reality shows and competitions. Her big break came in 2003 with the Bollywood song "Babuji Zaara Dheere Chalo" from the film 'Dum', which earned her an MTV Immies Award and established her as a distinctive voice in the industry. Over the years she has sung in Hindi, Punjabi, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Marathi, Malayalam and Nepali films, and has also released studio albums such as 'Madari' (2012) and 'Aisi Bani' (2013).
In addition to film work, Sonu has collaborated with artists like Vishal Dadlani, Gippy Grewal and Gajendra Verma, and has increasingly focused on devotional and indie music in recent years. She is the elder sister of singers Neha Kakkar and Tony Kakkar, but has publicly distanced herself from them in recent times, choosing to build her career independently. Sonu married Neeraj Sharma in 2006 and continues to be recognized for her raw vocal strength and spiritual connection to music.
