Some Lesser Known Facts

Vyomika Singh grew up in a middle-class family without any military background.
During a sixth-grade discussion about names, a classmate mentioned that she owned the sky, which inspired her to pursue a career as a pilot.
She discovered that the IAF initially only accepted unmarried males for pilot positions but later learned about the UPSC exam and applied successfully in 2004.
She faced legal issues regarding her commissioning as a permanently commissioned officer, ultimately fighting a case.
In 2020, she participated in a rescue mission in Arunachal Pradesh.
In April 2021, she and other women officers were granted permanent commission and she received this effect from 18 December 2019.
She was part of an all-women mountaineering expedition to Mt. Manirang, completing the trek during the ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mohotsav’ celebrations.
She is a highly skilled helicopter fighter pilot, having logged over 2500 hours of flight time.
