Some Lesser Known Facts

1. Suhaib belonged to a conservative Muslim family with his father holding positions in All India Imams Organisation and as a mosque imam in Delhi.
2. He met his first wife, Anju Singh, in November 1989 at Jamia Millia Islamia during their shared course.
3. Despite familial disapproval due to their different religions, Suhaib and Anju married in London in 1993 under the Special Marriage Act.
4. Upon returning to India from London, marital discord arose, leading Anju to move back to London and stay with her brother, who advised her to try to work things out.
5. While in London, he found inspiration from the British show Crimestoppers and conceived the idea for a crime-based show.
6. In 1997, he established ‘Aaliya Productions Pvt Ltd.' as his proprietary company.
7. Suhaib gained widespread recognition for hosting the renowned crime show 'India’s Most Wanted' in 1999.
8. By 2009, he had assumed the role of editor-in-chief at 'Bureaucracy Today' magazine, a monthly English publication.
9. His wife Anju Ilyasi died on 11 January 2000 from stab wounds at their East Delhi residence.
10. He was arrested on 28 March 2000 and charged under Section 304B (dowry death), Section 498A (mental harassment), and Section 201 (destroying evidence) of the Indian Penal Code.
11. In December 2017, he was convicted of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment by a Delhi court.
12. On 5 October 2018, the Delhi High Court acquitted him, stating there was no evidence on record to sustain the conviction.
