  • In 1997, Subodh successfully passed the UPSC examination and underwent training the following year, in 1998, after which he got his initial posting as an Assistant Collector in the Mandla district.
  • He was appointed the first District Panchayat CEO of Bastar following the division of Chhattisgarh into its own state. In 2002, he became the Raigarh Collector and later held multiple prestigious positions including MD of Markfed and NAN, and director of the Animal Directorate.
  • Subodh Singh served as the collector of Raipur and Bilaspur, leading initiatives such as introducing the city bus service in both districts during his tenure.
  • From 2009 to 2018, Subodh Singh worked closely with Chhattisgarh’s BJP chief minister, Raman Singh, holding positions such as joint secretary and deputy secretary in the personnel and general administration department, special secretary and director for personnel management, and secretary to the chief minister.
  • He also served as the managing director of the state's electricity distribution agency, and secretary of the Department of Mineral Resources and industries and commerce before accepting a central deputation in 2020.
  • He held the position of additional secretary in the Department of Food and Public Distribution within the Union Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution.
  • As of 2024, Subodh was serving as the Director General of the National Testing Agency before allegations of irregularities in the NEET and NET competitive exams surfaced.
