Sompal grew up in Punjab, India and played school-level cricket tournaments during his childhood.
He captained a team in the Indian Premier Corporate League before returning to Nepal in 2013 to pursue his cricket career.
He became familiar with Nepali cricket through a Facebook group for Nepali cricket supporters.
Impressed during U-19 National Championship, leading to selection for Kathmandu Region No. 3.
He took two centuries and was the leading wicket-taker in the U-19 tournament.
Became the first Nepalese bowler to achieve five wickets in an ODI.
