Shamanur Shivashankarappa was a veteran Indian politician, industrialist, educationist, and philanthropist from Davanagere, Karnataka.
He was the oldest serving Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) in India at the time of his death, having been elected to the Karnataka Assembly six times.
Known as 'Appaji' to his supporters, he was a prominent Lingayat leader and a key figure in the Indian National Congress for over six decades.
He founded the Bapuji Educational Association and the Bapuji Cooperative Bank, significantly contributing to education and banking in Davanagere.
He was the President of the All India Veerashaiva-Lingayat Mahasabha and worked to unite the Veerashaiva and Lingayat communities.
