The Portland Trail Blazers and Scoot Henderson could not agree on a rookie-scale extension before the deadline ahead of the 2026-27 season. Henderson is still under contract for this season and will become a restricted free agent in summer 2027, giving Portland the option to retain him with a qualifying offer.

Henderson was the only top-five pick from the 2023 first round to enter the 2026-27 season without a rookie-scale extension. The decision adds uncertainty about his long-term future in Portland, which general manager Joe Cronin had previously described as tricky to negotiate because of his inconsistent play.
