Rohit hails from Madurai, Tamil Nadu.
He was born with a birth defect involving a broken thigh bone, which led his doctor to advise swimming for physical fitness instead of cricket or football.
He started his swimming career in 2019 at district and state levels, facing challenges initially before finding success.
His pivotal moment came at the 2019 School Games Federation of India nationals, where after initially considering giving up, he won his first gold in the 100m breaststroke.
In 2022, he secured his first individual gold medal at the Khelo India University Games and gained recognition in the 50m butterfly event.
He broke Virdhawal Khade’s 100m butterfly record in June 2025 at the National Aquatics Championships.
He created a historical milestone in July 2025 by becoming the first Indian male swimmer to complete the 50 m butterfly in under 24 seconds.
As of October 2025, he has accumulated a total of five medals in international championships.
