Rajni Bala, a Kashmiri Pandit, taught at a Government High School in Gopalpora, Kulgam, Jammu and Kashmir. She was fatally shot by terrorists on May 31, 2022.
She resided in Kulgam with her husband and 13-year-old daughter, both school teachers as well.
They had been educators in government schools in Kulgam since 2009. Her school was about 7 km from their rented home in Chawalgam.
On the day of the attack, her husband and daughter dropped her off at school moments before the tragic incident occurred.
The couple had been seeking a transfer to a safer district, a request that was granted the night before Rajni's untimely death.
After the necessary procedures, her body was transferred to her hometown, Samba. Her husband expressed regret over the delayed transfer, believing it could have saved her life.
