In her childhood, Sindhu aspired to become a doctor.
PV Sindhu's elder sister, Divyaram Pusarla, was a national-level handball player who pursued a career in medicine.
Sindhu began playing badminton at 8 and a half years old.
Sindhu received training at the Indian Railway Institute in Secunderabad before joining Pullela Gopichand’s badminton academy under his mentorship.
She was honored as the 2014 NDTV Indian of the year.
Sindhu's parents were former Volleyball players.
