Career

Worked as a journalist and editor for Hindu Mahasabha publications including 'Agrani' and 'Hindu Rashtra'.
Member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in his early years before leaving due to differences.
Active in Hindu Mahasabha politics and activism as a Chitpavan Brahmin nationalist.
Assassinated Mahatma Gandhi on 30 January 1948 by shooting him three times at point-blank range during a prayer meeting at Birla House in New Delhi.
Sentenced to death on 8 November 1949 after a trial at the Punjab High Court in Shimla, along with co-conspirator Narayan Apte.

6. When his younger brother, Gopal Godse, was born. his parents began treating him as a boy.
7. He was released without charges after his first assassination attempt in 1944 due to Gandhi's own policy of declining to press criminal charges.
8. He cited Gandhi's decision to fast unto death on 13 January 1948 to pressure the Indian government to transfer 55 crore rupees to Pakistan as a key motivation for the assassination.
9. His writings, including a book titled 'Why I Assassinated Mahatma Gandhi', offered insight into his motivations but were suppressed for many years.
10. He was a Chitpavan Brahmin from Pune.
