In December 2019, he was selected for the Bangladesh squad in the 2020 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup, leading the team to its first championship title.
Joy was named in the Bangladesh Emerging squad for the home series against the Ireland Wolves in February 2021.
He missed part of the 2022 Test series against New Zealand due to a finger injury sustained during the first Test.
