Karunakaran made his acting debut in the short film 'Nenjuku Neethi,' directed by Nalan Kumarasamy, which won first place at a film festival.
His breakthrough came with Soodhu Kavvum (2013), followed by supporting roles in Yaamirukka Bayamey (2014), Jigarthanda (2014), and Indru Netru Naalai (2015).
He won the Best Comedian Award for his performance in Indru Netru Naalai (2015).
He appeared in the successful films Monster (2019) and Maanaadu (2021).
