Born in Isfahan, Iran, Homayoun initially pursued a career in architecture before transitioning to acting.
After the Islamic Revolution in 1980, he relocated to Vancouver, Canada, where he worked in architecture for several years.
He returned to Iran after his marriage ended and enjoyed visiting his grandchildren who settled in Vancouver.
His breakthrough came when he was unexpectedly invited to audition by filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami for Taste of Cherry.
The film won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival and acted as a springboard for his acting career.
Notably, he was selected for the role of Baba in The Kite Runner despite feeling he did not fit the character’s physical description.
