1. Hokato Hotozhe Sema was born into a family of farmers.
2. From a young age, he aspired to join the Indian Army.
3. He served as a havildar in the 9th Assam Regiment until he lost his leg due to a landmine during a military operation on 14 October 2002.
4. Following his injury, he transitioned to shot put throwing and has shown remarkable dedication with around 14 hours of training per week.
5. In 2022, he made history as the first athlete from Nagaland to secure a medal at the Asian Para Games.
6. In the 2024 Paris Paralympics, he was the sole representative from Nagaland, achieving a personal best throw of 14.65 meters to earn a bronze medal.
7. He began shot put at age 32 in 2016 after encouragement from a senior army official at the Pune-based Artificial Limb Centre.
8. He lost his left leg below the knee in a landmine blast during an anti-terrorist counter-infiltration operation in Chowkibal, Jammu and Kashmir.
