He was known for his versatile performances in both cinema and television, gaining significant popularity for his negative role as Aadhimuthu Gunasekaran in the Sun TV serial 'Ethirneechal'. Originally from a farming family in the Theni district, he was inspired by the success stories of local legends like Ilaiyaraaja and Bharathiraja to pursue a career in films. In 1990, he left his hometown with just Rs 200 to become a film director in Chennai, enduring years of hardship and odd jobs before establishing himself as a respected assistant director and later a director and actor.
