Initially disinterested in attending the National School of Drama after witnessing smoking students, she was encouraged by her father to pursue acting.
After her course at NSD, she briefly trained to be an air hostess but returned to her passion for acting.
She joined a theatre group and continued for over nine years before transitioning to costume design.
Dolly learned costume design from Ebrahim Alkazi's wife and made her debut as a costume designer in a play.
She assisted Richard Attenborough during the making of Gandhi and worked on many national TV serials.
Despite her success in costume design, she remains humble about material possessions.
In 2016, she returned to television to play her husband's sister in a show, marking her return to acting.
