Political Journey
  • In 2009, Dave was elected to Rajya Sabha (upper house of the Parliament).
  • From March 2010 to June 2010, he was a member of the Parliamentary Forum on Global Warming and Climate Change.
  • On 6 July 2016, Dave took the charges as Minister of State for Environment, Forest, and Climate Change.
  • In 2003, he was one of the main architects of the BJP's victory in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly polls.
  • After the 2003 elections, he was appointed adviser to the then Chief Minister, Uma Bharti.
  • In 2015, he was again nominated to the Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh.
  • On 5 July 2016, Dave took the charges as Minister of State (independent charge) for Environment, Forest, and Climate Change.

Some Lesser Known Facts

1. Anil Madhav Dave did not smoke.
2. During his college days, Dave participated in the JP Movement and was elected college president.
3. Dave was a cadet of the National Cadet Corps’ Air Wing.
4. After completing his education, Dave joined RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) and worked for the conservation of the Narmada River.
5. As the environment minister, Dave approved India’s first river-linking project, Ken-Betwa, which spans Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
6. Dave passed away on 18 May 2017 at the age of 60 due to lung cancer.
7. Since January, when he was diagnosed with pneumonia, Dave had been in poor health.
8. Dave passed away on 18 May 2017 due to cardiac arrest.
9. He was a trained pilot and once flew a Cessna along the banks of the Narmada for 18 hours.
10. He rafted 1,312 km on the Narmada river in 19 days.
11. He founded the non-governmental organization Narmada Samagra, which held an annual river festival.
12. He left explicit instructions for a simple cremation with Vedic rites on the banks of the Narmada at Bandrabhan in Madhya Pradesh, and asked for no memorials except perhaps the planting of saplings.
13. He founded Jan Abhiyan Parishad, an umbrella organisation to interlink and empower self-help groups and non-governmental organisations.
14. He was Vice President of the 10th World Hindi Conference in Bhopal organised by the External Affairs Ministry.
15. He inherited the legacy of the RSS from his grandfather Dadasaheb Dave and joined as a volunteer when he was barely eight years old.
