Andrej Karpathy is a Slovak-Canadian AI researcher and educator who co-founded OpenAI, led AI at Tesla, and founded Eureka Labs in 2024.
He has also been a prominent educator, especially through Stanford’s CS231n course and his online work on neural networks and large language models.
In May 2026, he joined Anthropic’s pre-training team to lead a new group focused on using Claude to accelerate pre-training research.
