Amreen Kaur Rai was arrested for allegedly masterminding the contract killing of 31-year-old property dealer Charanpreet Singh alias Cheeni, who was shot dead outside a gym in Chandigarh's Sector 9 market. Police said she paid Rs 50 lakh to the Lucky Patial gang to carry out the killing after a failed 2025 land deal left her with heavy financial losses. Reports also said an earlier attempt to target the victim in January 2026 did not succeed because security was tighter around Republic Day.
