Defamatory CaseIn July 2016, Daya Shankar Singh was suspended for six years from the position of state vice-president of Uttar Pradesh and debarred from the Bharatiya Janata Party for making a derogatory comment on BSP leader and former chief minister Mayawati. He was arrested on 29 July 2016 from Buxar district in Bihar and kept in judicial custody in Mau, Uttar Pradesh. After his wife filed an FIR alleging threats to their daughter and family, he was released from custody on 6 August 2016.
Fraud CaseIn 2014, a fraud case was lodged against Daya Shankar Singh and his brother for producing a forged bank guarantee of Rs. 60 lakhs for acquiring a dealership for the Mahindra and Mahindra agency in Haibatpur, Uttar Pradesh. Tractors and equipment worth more than Rs. 72 lakhs were provided to him for the agency till December 2015, and the matter surfaced after a State Bank of India inquiry found that no such guarantee existed.
