1. Bhairon Singh Rathore joined the BSF as a constable in 1963.
2. He was promoted to Lance Naik by 1971 and served in the Longewala sector in the Indo-Pakistan War.
3. Rathore displayed bravery in the Battle of Longewala by operating an LMG and motivating his fellow soldiers.
4. He retired in 1987 with the rank of Naik after a dedicated tenure.
5. On 19 December 2022, he passed away at AIIMS, Jodhpur due to a brain stroke.
6. He was posted with the 14th BSF battalion during the 1971 war and was attached to the Alpha Company of the 23rd Punjab Regiment due to his knowledge of the Longewala terrain.
7. When one of the 23 Punjab soldiers was killed, Lance Naik Bhairon Singh took his light machine gun and inflicted heavy casualties on the advancing enemy.
