The Detroit Red Wings announced that Steve Yzerman is transitioning out of his role as executive vice president and general manager into a senior adviser position. The move came as the team began a search for a new head of hockey operations, ending his tenure leading the club's front office.

Steve Yzerman publicly addressed Dylan Larkin's trade request for the first time during a Zoom call, acknowledging the request but stating he cannot guarantee the Detroit Red Wings will fulfill it. He emphasized that his responsibility is to act in the best interests of the organization, while noting Larkin has five years remaining on his contract and has provided a shortlist of teams for a potential no-trade clause waiver.

Following the 2025–26 season, Steve Yzerman said the Red Wings need to change some things and improve five-on-five scoring to become a tougher team to play against. He also called for better depth scoring, a clearer team identity, and possibly a dedicated checking line.
