Yandy Díaz is a Cuban professional baseball first baseman for the Tampa Bay Rays of Major League Baseball.
He began his career in the Cuban National Series with Naranjas de Villa Clara, slashing .292/.417/.351 in 67 games during the 2009-10 season.
In 2013, at age 21, he defected from Cuba to the Dominican Republic with childhood friend Leandro Linares, facing multiple failed escape attempts including imprisonment before signing with the Cleveland Indians for $300,000.
