Ashok Raj Sigdel was raised in a middle-class family and demonstrated sporting talent as a national-level boxer, Taekwondo athlete, and table tennis player during his youth.
He began his military career in 1986, excelling in the 25th Basic Course and earning a commission as a cadet.
Throughout his career, he has held numerous significant roles such as Commandant of the Counter-Insurgency and Jungle Warfare School, and Brigade and Division Commander.
In addition to his military responsibilities, in 2019 he was appointed Secretary of the Covid Crisis Management Centre (CCMC).
In 2022, he led the Nepali Army delegation for discussions with the US and has played a role in UN peacekeeping missions across multiple countries.
During the protests against corruption in 2025, he advised the Prime Minister to resign to maintain stability in the nation.
