Sonali is a 1993 batch IPS officer from the Madhya Pradesh cadre.
In July 2021, she made history as the first woman commander to lead a Border Security Force (BSF) formation along the India-Pakistan border in Punjab.
She was the first woman Inspector General in the Kashmir valley, overseeing BSF operations and leading the BSF's intelligence wing while also serving as an additional director general.
By 2025, she was appointed as the Additional Director General in Madhya Pradesh Police, holding several significant police roles.
On May 31, during the 300th birth anniversary of Devi Ahilyabai Holkar, she was tasked with security arrangements in Bhopal.
Sonali was responsible for the security of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with oversight of over 6 women IPS officers at key locations in Bhopal.
