Air India Flight AI 171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner carrying 242 passengers and crew, crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad Airport en route to London Gatwick. The aircraft plummeted into the BJ Medical College hostel compound, killing all 241 people onboard except Vishwaskumar Ramesh, plus 19 people on the ground. Ramesh, seated in 11A, miraculously survived by crawling through a gap in the fuselage after his seat detached and landed in a narrow gap between buildings.
